HELENA Series 8-Inch Honing Steel, High Carbon Rod
The 8-inch Honing Steel features a half-grooved and half-smooth finish. The grooved, coarse side of the steel is used for regular maintenance, to realign the microscopic teeth on the blade’s edge. The smooth, fine side of the steel is used to finish the edge with a few swipes of the blade after honing on the grooved side. For average use, the grooved side can be used weekly and the smooth side, daily. Regularly honed knives will retain their edges longer before needing to be sharpened.

The knives are beautiful, but they haven’t lasted us very long. Less than 2 years and the handles are cracking. We don’t own a dishwasher, so our knives have only ever been washed/dried by hand. I expected more longevity out of this set.

I have many knives from expensive Japanese imported , shun,wusthof , global and the is my most favorite knife. I find my self reaching for this knife without thought. The comfort of the handle and the slick design cuts everything like butter. With the price being so affordable it’s a easy choice for gifting someone from a professional chef to a DYI home chef.

I ordered the red paring knife. I am obsessed with this knife. I have a set of Cangshan knives, but wanted an additional paring knife. I thought of just getting any knife, but when I saw all the awesome colors, I had to get one in red. The quality, effectiveness, and separate sheath is worth the price.
